UPVC Replacement Door Handles

As time passes, the handles on your doors will wear down and require replacement. In this case, it is important that the new handles match the exact dimensions of the handle that was previously used.

Inline Lever/Lever

A lever handle is a modern-day door handle designed to suit new or replacement doors. This style door handle is offered in a wide range of styles and finishes. A number of manufacturers make this handle including Avocet, ERA, Fullex, Hoppe, Mila, Millenco & Yale.

The design of the sprung lever allows the handle to be set and angled to ensure a comfortable experience and is suitable for all users. Lever Pad

The lever pad upvc handle is different from the lever handles that are commonly found on doors. These handles can use a single spindle (inline) or independently from both sides using two inline or offset spindles (pad). They are usually used on UPVC double-glazed doors and come in many variations & finishes.

The handles are available in various finishes, including White Chrome, and Gold. The finish is BS EN 1670 Grade 5 and is resistant to rust. This provides the handle with the best performance and durability for its intended purpose.

All of the UPVC lever pad designs are supplied with the spindle and screws which allow them to be put on any new or existing uPVC door. The backplate fixation centers of 211mm permit a larger handle, which is typically beneficial when replacing a damaged or old multi-point door lock mechanism. The handle levers are sprung, solving the problem of handles hanging out of their horizontal position when not in use.

It is essential to match the PZ dimensions of both the multipoint lock as well as the uPVC doors when selecting a replacement UPVC spindle and handle. This measurement can also be called 'handle centre or cylinder centres'. It is important to match the right handles.

Euro Cylinder

Cylinder locks are typically found on uPVC doors, but can also be found on other types of door. They work by using a key to unlock a cylinder case which will reveal pins that can be aligned with those inside the lock body, allow them to rotate a revolving cam, thus opening the door. Euro cylinders can be equipped with up to six pins, with external and internal doors usually requiring different levels of security.

The choice of cylinder is vital. It is based on the use that your doors and handles will receive. For instance, doors that are external door handles and locks should be fitted with a higher security cylinder, whilst internal doors can be secured using the standard cylinder. Certain cylinders are equipped with additional features that can improve security, such as anti-drill or anti bump properties.

To ensure that the euro cylinder is the correct size for your door, it must be measured correctly. The cylinder should be measured from the central fixing screw hole to the other end of the cylinder and the thumb turn if you have one. It is recommended to do this with the lock in place however if this is not possible, you can remove it to take measurements. It is important to avoid having a extension of the cylinder beyond the handle or escutcheon. This can make it vulnerable to lock snapping attacks.

Most modern cylinders are designed with anti-drill and bump resistance features built into their design. These are designed to reduce the risk of attack by forcing the cylinder to rotate in the opposite direction. This can help prevent attacks and protect your bi-fold doors handle.

Certain cylinders are made to withstand snapping. This is a growing method of attack on cylinders where the break line inside the lock is attacked using a special tool to break the front of the cylinder and allow the door to be opened. This is a much faster and more convenient method of gaining access than through a multipoint locking system. It also leaves less evidence of the burglary which could hinder insurance claims.

Spring Cassette

This spring cassette is located within the base plate of your door handle. It is a spring-loaded solution to bring the multipoint lock handles to their normal position after usage. The handles had no spring and would droop when the locking mechanism was disconnected. This simple part is the best solution to fix this problem. It also stops your upvc door from becoming stuck in either the closed or open position since they are difficult to close manually.

These spring cassettes have been specifically designed for use with multipoint locks that are sprung They will not work with unsprung multipoint handles and you will need to have a hole specifically cut in your backplate in order for them to fit (please see image for technical diagram). They are a replacement for damaged or missing cassettes inside the door handle backplate of numerous brands of uPVC doors.
