3 Wheeled Buggies

Stability

Four-wheel buggies, with their center of gravity being balanced by your child's weight within the seat, are generally more stable than three-wheelers. Choose a buggy that has large rear wheels and a lockable wheel on the front. This makes it more comfortable to drive and less likely to snap apart when you're on bumpy roads. The one thing that can make a 3 wheel double stroller-wheeled pushchair difficult to maneuver is the broad frame, which makes it more difficult to maneuver into narrow spaces and tight doors than a four-wheeler. Some manufacturers have solved this problem with clever design that turns the wheels upside down when they are not being used. This reduces their size and makes it easier to maneuver through doors.

It's also important to think about whether the buggy you choose to use is suitable for your baby from birth or if you're planning on using it in conjunction with an infant car seat or carry cot. A lot of 3-wheelers fold flat, and then be placed upright. This is a good option when you have an unwieldy boot space or a small amount of storage space at home. However, some will require you to remove the front wheel prior to folding if you want it to fit into smaller spaces.

Manoeuvrability

Three-wheeled buggies are more maneuverable than strollers with four wheels. A lot of them feature an swivelling wheel at the front that allows you to steer and change direction with one hand. If you're considering taking your three-wheeled bike off the paved tracks, it's worth opting for a vehicle equipped with tyres filled with air (also called pneumatic tyres) which can cope with the most challenging terrain. These tyres will need periodic pumping, but they'll be more durable than solid tyres and are more likely to be puncture-proof. Look for a model with a lockable swivelling front wheel to aid you in navigating difficult surfaces.

A single front wheel could indicate that three-wheelers can be heavier than buggies with four wheels when folded. Check to see if the model you're considering fits in the boot of your car and can be sat up if needed. Certain models can fold in one hand and are freestanding when collapsed, which can save space in smaller car boots.
